This blog is not meant for those who believe that the science of astrology can be used to know one’s future. The knowledge about future is the restricted to Allah (swt) alone. Only Allah (swt) is the omniscient, supreme power.

49Such are some of the stories of the unseen, which We have revealed unto thee: before this, neither thou nor thy people knew them. So persevere patiently: for the End is for those who are righteous.

Astrology

Assalam oalaikum,

All kinds of amalyaat, talisman and taweez depend to a great extent on the factor of time. They can be successful and useful only if the right time is chosen. As I have discussed in my other blogs the entire universe created by Allah (swt) is inter-connected. The planets of our solar system have positive and negative influences on our life. The sun and the planets have been granted special powers by Allah (swt) and they all follow the command of Allah (swt). The Moon has been granted a pivotal role in the laws of the universe. The cycles of the moon influence the tides of the oceans and the tides of emotion within people also. This is because water is a major constituent of our bodies. Until and unless Moon is in a favorable position in the sky none of the amalyaat, talisman or taweez/amulets can have any positive outcome.

Factors to be kept in mind in amalyaat:

The Moon has to be observed to understand whether it is in a favorable position or an unfavorable one. I shall guide you about this in the following posts.

It should be decided whether the amal is to be performed during the day or at night. If it is to be done during daytime then it should be done in Talah Burj Roze and if it is to be done at night then it should be done in Talah Burj Laily. Burj Hamal is related to daytime and Burj Soor is related to the night.

Burj or zodiacal constellations are of two distinct categories: Mustakimatul and Moajatul. Both of them have to be considered before starting an amal.

The Moon gets rid of its negative influences after the lunar eclipse gets over. The amals are done during the phase of waxing Moon, i.e. the phase during which the moon becomes full and it is grows in its power. If the lunar phase is not considered before starting an amal then the amil can have to face the odds. He will not be able to meet his targets instead he may end up getting into serious troubles, with his efforts backfiring at him.

There are a lot of intricate nuances in astrology, which makes it a difficult discipline for a layman. Inshallah, I shall try my level best to clear all the doubts about the astrological concepts, in the following posts.

Mustaqimatul and Maojatul zodiac signs

Mustaqimatul signs: The zodiac signs that are known as the Mustaqimatul signs include: Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius. If a positive amal is to be performed then the best results will be obtained if it is done under the mustaqimatul zodiac sign. If the planetary aspects/drishti is positive then the amal will become even more effective.

On the contrary if the Mustaqimatul signs have negative planetary aspects/nazar then the amal will not be successful.

Maojatul signs: The zodiac signs that are known as the Maojatul signs include: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. Under these signs the negative amals of destruction, enmity etc can be done successfully. If these signs have negative planetary aspects or nazar then the work gets done more effectively. On the contrary if the Maojatul signs have positive planetary aspects/nazar then the amal will not be successful. If somebody happens to perform a positive amal under these signs then the amal will get nullified.

The appearance of the 7 planets

The 7 planets have a distinct appearance:

The Moon has masculine traits and a tall height. He has a gazar (stiff silken fabric) in one hand which is of either yellow or green color. Both his hands are placed on his shoulders.

The Sun can be personified as a masculine figure, with a medium height, a halo around the head and the face of a lion. His hands are placed on a jinn.

Mercury also has masculinity. He has a pen in hand, which is placed on his thigh, as though he were writing something. His color is turquoise.

Mars also has masculine traits, with the look of a soldier and a sword in one hand and a cut head in his other hand. The color is red.

Jupiter has masculine traits as well and a book in his hand. There is a disagreement amongst the scholars about its color. Some say it is yellow whereas some others say it is of sandalwood color.

Saturn has masculine traits as also and has long hair. He has six hands altogether. In two of his hands he holds wooden staff which hangs down till his knees. In the other two he hold a branch of a fruit tree and in the remaining two hands he has a Dum chira.

The relation between the planets and incense sticks (bakhour)

There is a strong link between the above mentioned 7 celestial bodies and incense sticks (bakhour in Arabic). If an amil performs an amal by keeping in mind all the necessary details and rituals associated with that amal but forgets about igniting incense sticks then this is akin to destroying a pillar of a mansion, thereby making it weak.

Therefore, in order to complete an amal successfully, it is essential to use incense sticks. Their absence would nullify the amal and all your effort will go down the drain. Remember, that different fragrances are associated with different planets.

The characteristics and nature:

Sun is of red, orange color and has a warm effect. Its direction is west and taste is sweet. It is jalali and belongs to the zodiacal constellation of Akbar. The bakhourat or smudge sticks related to Sun include: Oud, white and red sandalwood, Loban, joz, agar shaker and ittar.

Moon is completely white in color, and has a cool effect. Its direction is north and taste is sweet. It is Mushtarik and belongs to the zodiacal constellation of Akbar. The bakhourat or smudge sticks related to Moon include: Oud, camphor and rose scented ittar.

Mars is completely red in color and has a warm effect. Its direction is west and taste is salty. It is Nahis Asghar and jalali. The bakhourat or smudge sticks related to Mars include: Oud, caranfil, loban, sindor, gogal and joz.

Mercury is of bottle green color and has a warm effect. Its direction is west and taste is shor. It is Saad and Nahis Asghar. The bakhourat or incense sticks related to Mercury include: Oud, amber. Loban, taj, kashor and alqandar.

Jupiter is of yellow color and has a muslaq nature and warm effect. Its taste is sweet and direction is eastern. Its saad is Akbar, jalali. The bakhourat or smudge sticks related to Jupiter include: musk, atir amber, saffron, red and orange sandal, agar loban and hub_alfar shaker.

Venus has a green color and a cool effect. Its taste is sweet and direction is western. Its saad is munqalib. The bakhourat or fragrances related to Venus include:loban, shaker, nutmeg and fragrant flowers agar.

Saturn has a black color and a warm effect. Its taste is shod and direction is northern. It is jalali and Nahis akbar. The bakhourat or fragrances related to Saturn are: Oud, ral and gogal.

How to calculate the zodiac sign

In this chapter I shall discuss the method of knowing a person’s zodiac sign. Information about the zodiac sign is of utmost importance in the discipline of amalyaat.
If the zodiac sign of a person on whom the amal (of love or hatred) is to be targeted, is not known, then the amal will not be successful.

Method of calculating:
The values of the total Urdu alphabets of that person’s name and his mother’s name should be summed up and then divided by 12. Result:
If the remainder is 1 then the zodiac sign is Aries
If the remainder is 2 then the zodiac sign is Taurus.
If the remainder is 3 then the zodiac sign is Gemini
If the remainder is 4 then the zodiac sign is Cancer
If the remainder is 5 then the zodiac sign is Leo
If the remainder is 6 then the zodiac sign is Virgo
If the remainder is 7 then the zodiac sign is Libra
If the remainder is 8 then the zodiac sign is Scorpio
If the remainder is 9 then the zodiac sign is Sagittarius
If the remainder is 10 then the zodiac sign is Capricorn
If the remainder is 11 then the zodiac sign is Aquarius
If the remainder is 12 then the zodiac sign is Pisces


An example: If the person’s name on whom an amal is to be performed is Ahmed and his mother’s name is Anum then the zodiac sign of Ahmed will be calculated in the following way:

The total value of Ahmed’s name =53

ANUM
ALIF=1
NUN=50
AEN=70
MEEM=40
The total value of Anum will be 161.
Now in order to calculate Ahmed’s zodiacal sign both the sums, i.e. 53 and 161 shall be added, which will give us a sum total of 214.
Now, when we divide this sum by 12 we get the remainder of 10. This shows that Ahmed is a Capricorn.

The 12 Zodiacal Constellations exhibit different characteristics which are mentioned below:

Aries: This is the 1st zodiac constellation and has a yellow and red color. It has a sweet nature and the Eastern direction. In astrology, each zodiac sign has a ruling planet. Venus is malefic. In case of Aries, it is Mars. Sun in this zodiac sign ascendant is exalted. (When the planets are in the state of exaltation in specific signs and they are apt to provide good results by supporting and protecting their general and particular significances, if they are in strength). Saturn is at 19 degrees .Aries is a male, cardinal constellation that is associated with the month of Muharram-ul-haram.

Taurus: This is the 2nd zodiac constellation and has a black and green color. It has a hot temperament and the North direction. Mars is malefic. Its ruling planet is Venus. The moon is exalted this zodiac sign. Taurus is a female, fixed sign that is associated with the month of Safar-ul-muzaffar.

Gemini: This is the 3rd zodiac constellation and it has a whitish-yellow color. It has a hot temperament and the Western direction. Its ruling planet is Mercury. Jupiter is malefic. Rahu exalts in this zodiac sign. Gemini is a male, Mutable sign that is associated with the month of Rabi-ul-awwal.

The relation amongst the Zodiac Constellations

Amals may be related to love or hatred. Sometimes a person may seek the help of an amil to make someone fall in love with him/her. At other times someone may approach the amil with a request to create animosity between two people. In both the cases there are two people involved. Before you start any amal, the zodiac sign of both the people concerned as well as the relation between their planets should be ascertained.

Some zodiac signs are affable towards each other whereas some others are hostile towards each other. This factor should be considered beforehand, as it is quite important.

As we know that there is a concept of temporary malefic and benefic planets which implies that the hostile or malefic planets can also be temporarily benefic and vice versa. If you want to make a person to fall in love with another but you discover that their planets are hostile towards each other then you should do the amal for love between them, at a time when their planets exhibit a temporary benefic nature.

On the other hand if you want to do the amal of creating dissent between two people but you realize that their planets are friendly towards each other so you should wait for the time when their planets exhibit a temporary hostility between themselves.

You will have to determine the zodiac signs of the two main people involved in the amal by the method I have described in my post, “How to determine the zodiac sign”.

The relation amongst the planets

Planets are related to one another in 3 ways: 1.Friend, 2. Neutral, and 3. Enemy.

Besides the permanent friendship between planets their temporary friendships should also be considered.

The table given below will show the relation between the planets. Dost means friend, masawi means neutral whereas dushman means enemy.

For example, if we take the example of the 1st column of zahal/Saturn then we find that it is friendly with Atarad (Mercury) and Zohra (Venus). Saturn is neutral towards mushtari (Jupiter) and enemy of shams (Sun), Qamar (Moon) and Mirrikh (Mars).

In olden times it was noted that each moving planet had a relationship with a fixed zodiacal sign. These relationships were orderly and clear-cut in the sense that the Sun and Moon ruled one sign each whereas the five known planets ruled two signs each.

Leo is ruled by Sun

Cancer is ruled by Moon

Aries & Scorpio are ruled by Mars

Taurus & Libra are ruled by Venus

Virgo & Gemini are ruled by Mercury

Sagittarius & Pisces are ruled by Jupiter

I have discussed in my post ‘How to calculate the zodiac sign?’ the method of determining the zodiac sign with the help of the mother’s name. When the zodiac sign of a person is determined then the amil should not perform any constructive amal for that person in the following dates:

Aries- 6,11, 20 and 29

Taurus - 4,9,24,25 and 28

Gemini - 4,13,17,28 and 30

Cancer- 8,13,18,20 and 28.

Leo- None of the days are unfavorable

Virgo- 22,17 & 6

Libra- 22,23 and 28

Scorpio- 4, 9, 13, 15, 24 and 28.

Sagittarius- 4, 9, 19 and 13

Capricorn- 17,22,24 and 25

Aquarius- 12, 17, 23 and 30.

Pisces- 13, 24 and 29.

Apart from these above mentioned days the rest of the days will be Saad or favorable for doing positive/constructive amals.

The association of planets with different aspects of our lives

The planets are associated with different aspects of human life. For example, Venus is associated with love and victory, Mars with conflicts etc.

If an amil does the amal for love then he should observe whether the aspect or nazar of the associated planet is positive or negative with the Moon. A positive aspect will prove to be beneficial for a positive amal whereas a negative aspect would prove to be good for a negative amal.

Saturn is associated with depression, struggle, illness etc so the amals related to destroying the enemy, subduing the opponents etc should be done under Saturn’s influence.

Jupiter is associated with fulfillment of wishes, ease after hardships and making one’s intentions noble. Therefore amals related to increasing wealth, success in business, friendship, increase in prestige and position, enhanced sustenance, victory over the powerful, rich and learned and healing diseases should be performed under the influence of Jupiter.

Mars is associated with clashes. Hence, amals related to enmity between two people, altercations between two people, making the opponents panicky, victory over one’s enemies, alienating the enemy, crush the opponents, destroying the enemy’s army and estranging people from each other should be done under the influence of Mars. The amals for curing diseases can also be done successfully.

The Sun is associated with glory, power, popularity, prestige, victory over the rich; powerful and kingship.

Venus is associated with love, friendship, entertainment and marriage. Hence, amals related to seeking love from the woman one desires and opulence should be done under the influence of Venus.

Mercury is associated with breaking magic spells and clearing doubts. So amals related to getting rid of black magic, eloquence, making the enemy tongue-tied, blocking their dreams, increasing knowledge and doing away with one’s enemies should be done under Mercury.

Moon is associated with health, getting rid of diseases and evil eye, overcoming one’s fears and doubts. Hence, amals related to health, friendship, protecting from evil eye, protection of crops, increase in the yield of crops and orchards should be done under Moon’s influence.

The foodstuff related with the Stars

The concept of food for the planets is closely related to amalyat. However, this does not imply that the Sun, Moon, Venus etc actually need food like us. At this point I would like to explain a few things. There is a close link between the moakkilat (angels) and Allah (swt)’s names. Every name of Allah has a Muwakkil who constantly prays and repeats that name of Allah (swt). These Moakkils are also related to Allah (swt)’s creation such as the Sun, Moon and the planets. Just as I have explained in my previous blogs that the seven planets are closely related to some or the other fragrances similarly, the planets are also closely associated with eatables. These eatables are distributed in the name of the planets and Moakkils during the early period of the amal. So whatever sweetmeats, dry fruits etc deem to be suitable according to the nature of the amal and the related planets should be distributed. This is a means of appeasing the moakkilat and protecting oneself from getting any type of punishment (rajat) from them. This type of distribution of foodstuff is a kind of a sadqa or charity for the amal that assures that the amal will get completed successfully. The foodstuff can either be floated in a river or it can be given to someone who deserves it, after completion of the amal.

Sun: Rose Ittar, gram dal, honey, fragrant dried fruits, desserts and sweet zarda (saffron colored rice cooked with sugar).

Moon: Milk, rice, ghee (clarified butter, white sugar, white rice, Rose water and sweet, Indian dry fruits.

Mars: Roti (Bread with yeast), meat, kebabs, red chilies, Tand or Tazz, oil Talak, leafy vegetables, Masoor dal (lentil) and sour dried fruits.

Mercury: rice, Moong dal (lentil), Indian or imported dried fruits- green pistachios, Char maghas (a mixture of 4 seeds or nuts: Almonds,

Cantaloupe Seeds, Pumpkin seeds and Water melon seeds), grapes, pomegranate, roti, paratha (Indian bread) and all types of fragrances.

Jupiter: Imported dried fruits, milk, rice, honey, misri (candy sugar), sugar, zarda, roti with yeast (naan) and Rose ittar.

Venus: Milk, rice, Zarda, halwa with honey, gram dal (lentil), Ittar and leafy vegetables.

Saturn: Urad dal khichdi, oil Syah, Ittar Mati, bitter dried fruits and aubergines.

Khamsa Mothera

Saturn, Jupiter, Mars; Mercury and Venus are referred to as Khamsa Mothera because as we know that the Sun is in the 4rth sky. Besides the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars; Mercury and Venus revolve around the Sun. Before commencing the amal the amil should observe these Khamsa Mothera carefully to see whether they are related with the amal or not. If they are connected then it should be observed whether they benefic in terms of the amal or not. If they are positive then the amal can be started, while keeping in mind the other details. Inshallah the amal will have a positive outcome.
There is another way by which the amil can protect him self from the negative effects of the planets. In this way the amal will also become successful.

Moon in Scorpio

An amil should be aware about the consequence of Moon in Scorpio because this produces a lot of negativity which is not conducive for the success of an amal. Each month the Zodiac constellation of Scorpio governs for two and a half day. As we know that a Scorpio is known for its tendency to sting people. The same goes for the Scorpio Zodiac constellation. If an amal is started at the time when this Zodiac sign has its ruler ship then the amal can never succeed. Therefore any new amal should never be started during the ruler ship of Scorpio. This period is beneficial for doing negative amals of destruction, revenge etc. The sky has been divided into 28 equal parts which are called the ‘Lunar Mansions’. Each part symbolizes the passage of the Moon through its 28 day cycle. During its monthly orbit around the earth, the moon comes under the influence of the 12 zodiac constellations for around two and a half days each or roughly 56 hours.

How to calculate the Solar position

The astrological system based on the Sun is called Shamsi and it is calculated according to the Gregorian calendar/ Western calendar/Christian calendar.

Number of days in the Gregorian calendar is as follows:

January:31

February:28

March:31

April:30

Number of days in the Zodiac Constellations:

Capricorn:29

Aquarius:30

Pisces:30

Aries:31

Taurus:31

For example, if you want to know that on 22nd April in which constellation would the Sun be located and at which degrees?

Answer: Calculate the number of days from 1st January -22 April. The sum is of 112 days. Now add 10 to this sum and you will get 122. Now add the number of days of Capricorn (30) Aquarius (30), Pisces (30) and Aries (31). This will give you a total of 120. You will have a remainder of 2 days.

This two will be moved ahead of Aries and will be given to Taurus. This shows that on 22nd April Sun will be in Taurus at 2 degrees.

How to calculate the lunar position

Assalam oalaikum,

This type of calculation is based on the Arabic calendar. First of all calculations should be made to determine in which zodiac constellation is the Sun positioned. Then in order to find out the position of Moon on a particular date of the Arabic calendar, the date should be multiplied by 13. 26 should be added to the sum and the result should be divided by 30. The quotient and the remainder are used to determine the exact position of the Moon in the sky.

For example: If you want to find out the position of Moon as on 22nd April 1965 (19 Zil hajj 1384) then you should multiply 19 by 13. You will get 247 to which you should add 26. The result will be 273. Now, if you divide 273 by 30 then the quotient will be 9 and the remainder will be 3. Since Sun is in Taurus (22nd April - 21st May) at this time of the year so the Moon, as per the above calculations, will be in the 9th zodiac constellation, starting from Taurus, i.e. Capricorn at 3 degrees.

There is another method of calculation the position of the Moon.

An example: If you want to know the location of Moon on 19th zil Hajj then multiply 19 by 2 and you will get 38. Then add 5 to this and the result will be 43. Now subtract 5 from each burj, starting from the burj in which the Sun is positioned. In this case the Sun is in Taurus. Hence, starting from Taurus we will reach Capricorn (40/8=5) and the remainder will be 3. This 3 will be moved on to the next zodiac, i.e. Capricorn. So, the Moon will said to be in Capricorn at 3 degrees.

Sankranti. Sankranti is a compound word for sham and kraanti. Sham means 2, dual or union whereas Kraanti means to overcome or pass through. Therefore, sankranti is the term used to denote the phase when the Sun changes a zodiac sign. The transit phase of the Sun is not a favorable time for an amil to start a new amal.

Retrograde and prograde planetary motion

The planets show prograde and retrograde motion in the sky. The term Retrograde denotes the motion of any celestial body that seems (from the Earth) to be going backwards through the Zodiac. This backward motion can be explained with the analogy of two passing cars. If you accelerate and pass the other car, then the other car appears to be creeping backwards. This backwards motion is comparable to the concept of retrograde planets. On the contrary prograde motion means that the planet is moving in its normal direction.

When a planet goes retrograde it brings about demotion, anxiety and upheavals in life. On the other hand, when a planet is prograde it brings about stability, profit, success and prosperity in life.

A person should not do any positive amal, chilla or make any taweez when a planet goes retrograde because it causes negativity and will ruin the amals. On the contrary the negative amals of enmity, destruction etc will not be successful when done during the prograde phase of a planet.

If there is a retrograde planet in a person’s horoscope then he should do only amals of problems or upheavals. On the other hand if a person has a prograde planet then he should do only amals related to love.

Occidental and oriental planets

Planets are occasionally described as being occidental or oriental of the Sun. The term occident originally means setting or perishing, as in sunset. On the other hand ‘orient’ originally means rising or emerging, as in a sunrise.

If a planet is said to be 'oriental of the Sun' it implies that it appears in the east in the morning, rising before the Sun. Similarly, if a planet is described as 'occidental of the Sun' it means that it follows the sun by diurnal motion, and is visible after sunset.

The Moon sets in the constellation just before or after the Sun, at 12 degrees.

The Mercury sets in the constellation just before or after the Sun, at 13 degrees

The Venus sets in the constellation just before or after the Sun, at 12 degrees

The Mars sets in the constellation just before or after the Sun, at 18 degrees.

The Jupiter sets in the constellation just before or after the Sun, at 15 degrees.

The Saturn sets in the constellation just before or after the Sun, at 15 degrees.

Till a planet is in the setting position it is called Tahat-ul-Shag. At this juncture all the amals related to success or attainment should be strictly avoided because as I have explained earlier, the planets are considered to be malefic during this phase.

Just like the Sun, all the planets rise and set. In amilyaat the rise and set of the different planets are used to do specific amals. At times the taweez/naqsh is prepared keeping in mind the rise and set of these planets.

Astrology is a difficult discipline but if one has an insatiable interest and determined to gain mastery over it then it may seem easy. Talisman also depends on the rise and set of planets. Anybody who has a little knowledge about occult may be aware of how powerful a talisman can be. However, the effectiveness of the talisman also depends to a great extent on the nuances of astrology such as the rise and set of planets.

How to calculate the lagan

I have discussed how to calculate the sankaraant or Sun’s transit time in chapter no.20. In this chapter I am going to explain how to calculate the lagan. First of all one has to see in which zodiac constellation is the Sun. After the Sun’s position is determined, then till the period the Sun reaches the next zodiac constellation, the time of Sunrise will be known as the lagan of that zodiac constellation. For example, if the Sun is in Aries, then the time of Sunrise during that phase will be considered to be the lagan of Aries. A day is divided into 60 Ghadis. So after 5 Ghadis would be the Taurus lagan. Then after 5 Ghadis would be the Gemini lagan. Similarly after every 5 Ghadis the lagan will keep on changing and the next day it would be the lagan of the same zodiac sign in which the Sun will be positioned at that time of the year. When the length of the day and nights are equal, as during equinoxes, then the lagan are of the same duration. However, if the days become shorter then nights then the lagan of day will be lesser then 5 Ghadis.

On the contrary when the days will be longer then nights then the lagan of the night will get shorter then 5 Ghadis.

Specific planetary positions in the 12 zodiac constellations

In amilyat-e-nujum planetary position is the term used to denote the specific position of the planet in a zodiac constellation. Each zodiac constellation has 6 sub-sections, namely: Aoj, Haziz, Tarfa, Wabal, Tarah and Farah.

I shall explain about these specific positions of the zodiac in detail. Each planet travels through the 12 zodiac constellations. While doing so it crosses specific points in each constellation such as Aoj, Wabal etc.

When a planet is in Aoj it brings about success and prosperity. Hence, amals related to success and attainment should be done.

When a planet is in Haziz it brings about downfall and defeat. Hence, amals related to humiliating and debasing someone should be done.

When a planet is in Wabal amals related to defeating the enemy should be done.

When a planet is in Tarja amals related to growth and prosperity should be done.

When a planet is in Farah, amals related to happiness and expelling misery or sadness should be done

When a planet is in Tarah, amals related to inflicting pain and disease to one’s opponents should be done

Exaltation and debilitation of planets

There is a specific sign amongst the 12 Zodiac signs in which a planet functions at its best. This is known as its sign of Exaltation. The sign which is 180 degrees apart or opposite in the Zodiac is known as the sign of Debilitation for that particular planet. The planets are also said to be in their fall in certain zodiac signs, which implies that they are debilitated in those signs. In debilitated sign, the planet becomes weak and may bring about many challenges and problems in the life of a native.

When in its sign of exaltation, a planet functions freely in harmony with its true nature and produces positive results in our life. planet becomes stronger and favorable when it is in its sign of Exaltation. On the contrary in the sign of debilitation, a planet cannot play a positive role because the nature of sign does not complement with the nature of planets.

Every Zodiac sign has a dimension of 30 degrees. There is a particular degree of exaltation and also a particular degree of debilitation which are not the same for the different planets.

All amals pertaining to accumulation of wealth, growth and prosperity should be done when a planet is in its exalted sign. The amals related to destroying one’s enemies and overpowering the opponents should be done at times when the planet is in it debilitation sign .

As I have already explained in my post: Exalted and debilitated planets, there is a specific sign amongst the 12 Zodiac signs in which a planet functions at its best. This is known as its sign of Exaltation. planet becomes stronger and favorable when it is in its sign of Exaltation.

Below is a list of the planets and the benefits that can be obtained from them when they are exalted or in sharaf phase.

Sun: Victory over enemies, attainment of prestige, grandeur. Taweez and alwah (naqsh engraved on copper or gold plates) are prepared during this time for victory and progress. Black magic does not work on the Alwah prepared for Aries sign. Neither can any person harm anyone who has the Aries alwah prepared for him self. The plate used for this purpose is made of gold and it is used to heal a plethora of ailments.

Mercury: To bring the bureaucrats and one’s peers under control, enhance memory for success in exams; to do away with foolishness and to enhance eloquence an alwah is prepared. This alwah is helpful in curing nightmares that kids have or the problem of their getting scared, melancholia, epilepsy and weakness.

Venus: Alwah is prepared for subjugating and bringing the minds of people or a lover under one’s control. The alwah for gaining attention of the people is prepared specially for businessmen, politicians, doctors and traders/shopkeepers as it enhances their respectability and popularity in the society. The alwah is helpful in curing diseases pertaining to women and it also helps in a safe delivery.

Mars: Alwah is made for attainment of power and valor, making the heart strong, gaining victory over enemies in war and protection from wild animals and black magic. The alwah prepared during Mars exaltation is helpful in healing leprosy, phlegm, colic pain (acute abdominal pain) and Parkinson’s disease.

Jupiter: Alwah is prepared for attainment of wealth, enhanced sustenance and position, winning lottery and other chance games (gambling) paying back loans and creating new sources of income. The medicinal purpose of creating alwah or engraved plates under Jupiter’s exaltation period is to heal insanity.

Saturn: Alwah is made for transforming enmity between two groups or two individuals into love. If there is fear of losing land, property, marital relationship (by means of divorce) or job then it can be stopped by preparing a special alwah too. If a person is a have-not (without property) then he can be helped in acquiring property through an alwah. One can also get a high status in the society, victory over enemies and become an invincible person with the help of this alwah. This alwah helps to cure plague and tuberculosis.

Moon: Any amal or wazifa that is started during Moon’s exaltation proves to be very effective and beneficial. If any amal of love, progress etc is done accurately during this phase then it also gets success.

Compatibility factor amongst the 12 Zodiac Signs

In astrology the 12 zodiac signs have been divided into quadruplicities (modes or modalities) and triplicities (the elements). I have discussed the quadruplicities (cardinal, fixed or mutable) in chapter no.6: The types of Zodiacal Constellations.

A Triplicity means that there are 3 Zodiac signs in each group that Trine each other. So, each sign is defined by factors such as a Gender (Masculine, Feminine), Triplicity (Fire, Air, Earth and Water) and Quadruplicity (Cardinal, fixed or mutable).

Zodiac signs belonging to the same trinity or element are said to harmonize. For e.g. planets in Aries and in Leo (both are fire signs) harmonize because they belong to the sign of the same triplicity.

It is obvious that the fire signs are not just mutually compatible but are compatible with the air signs as well, simply because fire and air stimulate each other.

Earth signs are not just compatible with each other but also with water signs (think of watering your plants).

Fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. By their nature all the fire signs are hot and dry and ardent.

Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. By their nature all the Earth signs are cold, dry and heavy.

Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. By their nature all the Air signs are light, hot, wet

Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. By their nature all the Water signs are wet, soft and cold.

In amalyaat familiarity with these aspects of the 12 Zodiac Signs is essential too because if the person who wishes to perform an amal on the other, has the same element (water, air, earth or fire) as the other person, then amals of love, friendship or affinity can be easily done successfully. On the contrary, if the two people involved in an amal have repelling elements then doing amals of love or friendship between them is a Herculean task. In such a case, two taweez have to be made for both the individuals. A single taweez will not be able to yield desirable results.

The malefic planets tend to generate negative electromagnetic radiations on the native, thereby producing negative results in the life of the native. Contrarily the benefic planets generate positive radiations on the native, thereby producing positive results in the life of the native.

Mercury is a neutral. It tends to take on the nature of any planet to which it is associated.

While doing an amal is has to be kept in mind that if the amal has a negative nature then it should be done only in the Saat of a malefic planet. If there are negative planetary aspects (drishti or nazar) then the results will be even better.
